Young Women Writers is a blog for budding writers and seasoned veterans alike. It is a place for writers to converge to think and write as one.
The site, while not exclusively about writing, focuses on bringing writers together in a fun and encouraging atmosphere to promote creativity and creative growth. Writing Prompts for Writers or People who Like to WriteMost posts, while each emblazoned with the author's own personal flair and humerous quips, include a writing prompt. These range all the way from simple "write a paragraph about your day" to more complicated "write a sestina about an intimate encounter" assignments. They are both fun and challenging for writers of any level/style. The prompts are a great way to get the creative juices flowing as wel as a constructive way to spend free time. They are also great for aiding and/or curing writer's block. The latest prompt is a simple haiku exercise and can be found here. Check it out and make a contribution to a budding writing community. Participation is always encouraged, but not mandatory for participation in the day's prompt. So do not feel pressured to submit your creative attempts. Guest Writer Videos to Spread Reader AwarenessWhile writing prompts are usually included in most posts, they also tend to include videos of "guest writers." The "guest writer" changes every day and the videos are generally quite interesting. "Guest writer's of the past have included: Charles Bukowski, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Steve Kowit, Shel Silverstein, Captain James T. Kirk and Eli Weisel. Generally the videos offer some insight into the writing world. Though, in some cases, they are merely videos of the authors reading their own work. Either way they are entertaining and readers enjoy watching them. A Fun, Sassy Site Worth a ShotThe site isn't limited to young women writers, or even young women or just writers. It is a site for anyone. The author is silly at times, but always expresses her feelings in a professional manner while trying to maintain a respect for her readers and their feelings. It is at times a personal blog about the authors life, but it is the personal spin that makes the blog so endearing. Hopefully the blog will make its mark and stay around for a while so that future generations will be able to enjoy the wonderful prose and the great tools that they author is able to provide.
