Contests and giveaways can be a great way to get new people introduced to your blog. Despite the benefits, it can be difficult to find prizes at an affordable cost.

Giveaways not only drive traffic but also provides goodwill for your regular readers. Most bloggers don’t have a lot of money; therefore it can be difficult to secure prizes that are in-demand. Here are a few ways to find great prizes at a low cost.

ProfNet

Log on to ProfNet and register as a journalist. Once on the system you can choose “create opportunity.” This is where you will fill out information on your blog and the things you’d like to request in the form of prizes. You can request services, books, or just about anything you can imagine! When you’ve registered on the site, the offers will begin rolling in through your email.

Approach Companies That Relate to Your Blog

Organizations today are eager to advertise their products on the Internet. Blogs are a perfect way to do that, especially if your blog matches the readers they are trying to attract. If you know of a company that produces a product your readers would be interested in, contact their marketing department and see if they would like to donate a few prizes as part of a giveaway. Offer them links in exchange for their donation.

Used Book Stores

Many times used book stores will have new, overstocked items at a very reasonable price. Oftentimes you can find CDs and DVDs still in the wrapper, and books in brand new condition. Just make sure that the books and CDs you give away are in brand new condition.

The Dollar Store

You can often get new books or DVDs at the Dollar Store. Look for items that will be of interest to your target audience, and buy up a few as prizes for a blog. You can also find kitchen items, wrapping paper, or cards that make great prizes for your blog as well. Just be sure to match the item you give away to the subject of your blog.

Online Retailers

Amazon, Overstock.com, and other online outlets are great to use when it comes to a blog contest. You can offer your readers the latest CDs, DVDs, and books as soon as they are available without ever having to go to the store yourself. Best of all, you can ship directly from the retailer to the prize winner, avoiding time spent in the store or post office.

Overstock or Bargain Bins in Retail Stores

If it’s DVDs or CDs you are looking for, don’t forget to check out the bargain bins in your local retail store. Just because a DVD isn’t the newest one on the market doesn’t mean it’s something your readers won’t enjoy. If you write a celebrity blog, look for older movies or CDs from the related artist. Or, search for a specific genre that compliments the theme of your blog.

Blog contests are worth the time and effort because they can drive many people to your site. Be sure to obtain the best possible prizes available to reward your readers. Advertise your blog contest on forums and contest sites so the greatest number of interested parties can take part. Lastly, don’t forget to announce your contest when the winner is chosen.
