Celebrity blogs are a useful, inexpensive way to spread news about the celebrity's life as well as to allow them to get closer to their fans.

Celebrity news used to be the business of weekly celebrity gossip magazines and TV shows. Today, celebrity news also comes from a variety of celebrity blogs that post gossip throughout the day about a wide variety of celebrities. But increasingly, celebrities aren't waiting to find themselves in the gossip blogs, and they aren't relying on magazines to tell their stories for them. Many celebrities keep their own blogs in order to tell their own stories.

Building a Community

Some celebrities, such as Melanie Griffith, have blogs that connect them to fans and cultivate a community. Melanie Griffith responds to some of her fans comments, making her seem more accessible.

Some celebrity blogs serve as a space to rant about anything and everything, often making them the subjects of ridicule. This kind of blog may be a target for gossip columnists, but it also serves to keep the celebrity in the public eye.

Informational Celebrity Blogs

Some celebrities have successful blogs that keep the star's fans updated on the celebrity's life and work, cultivating a loyal following. This can keep a celebrity relevant to their fan base and may even gain them more fans. Wil Wheaton keeps a popular blog that he uses to connect with fans, talk about things that he enjoys and promote his writing.

Some blogs are updated very infrequently with news about the celebrity while others strive to keep fans updated more often. Ashton Kutcher keeps a blog that updates his fans about his latest projects and his travels as well as to comment on news and world events. Like many people, Kutcher uses a social networking site to host his blog. MySpace offers a free platform for blogging that is also tied to a profile, photo album and other networking options.

Business Blogs

Some celebrity blogs are run like any public relations site, putting forth favorable information to improve the image of the celebrity. These blogs are an quick way to promote the celebrity and to call attention to his projects and personal life. With PR blogs, the right information can be submitted to the public far faster than with a news article or a gossip magazine. It's also inexpensive and can be run either by the celebrity or by a PR ghostwriter.

Many celebrity blogs are read by gossip bloggers who can quickly get information about a variety of celebrities. When a celebrity blog is updated often and contains news and some personality, blogging is a useful and inexpensive PR tool that can keep a star connected to his or her fanbase in a personal way.
