Why Professionals Should Have One

Professionals should create and maintain blogs related to their careers and expertise because this will build credibility and reputation among colleagues and peers.

The Internet has opened many opportunities for computer users. However, with the expansion of the Internet also came additional standards and expectations for different types of Internet users. A wide variety of information and interaction was at the fingertips of the Internet users.

People are constantly looking for information and other types of literature from the Internet. There is always a constant demand causing traffic to different websites and weblogs. Many readers are familiar with websites, but some are with weblogs or blogs. Weblogs are a method of journaling on different issues and topics. Websites have been around since the Internet was made public. However, blogs have added a strong presence to the Internet. Bloggers, who blog, have different types of backgrounds and expertise that may influence readers.

Blogs cover a wide variety of issues and topics. Some of them are personal—musings or confessions, while others are professional. Blogs are much easier to maintain than websites because graphics and html codes are easily accessible from the blogsite, such as Blogger or Wordpress. However, blogs are always in need to have content updates, otherwise the blogger may risk losing readership and credibility.

Blogs strengthen one’s professional careers because it strengthens their knowledge and expertise in that career. While readers may learn, bloggers learn as well. They may form different perspectives and viewpoints about their own careers. It is also a type of staff training and development because the blogger may do research and interviews to understand a specific concept, therefore learning themselves.

By sharing their knowledge to readers, bloggers will build credibility and a strong reputation among their readers, companies and organizations. This will allow bloggers to become experts in their fields and careers. This is also a great addition to resumes and curriculum vitas. Potential employers always want to know more about their prospective employees. By blogging, this is one way to show an employer that he or she has the skills and knowledge to earn that position.

A professional should get his or her foot into the blogging world. There are different types of blogsites that host blogs. Some include Blogger, Wordpress, MySpace, and LiveJournal. There are many more other blogsites that can be found on the Internet. These sites have tutorials to assist an interested individual in creating a blog. It is a learning process. To get more ideas, be sure to visit other blogs of interest to see other bloggers are doing.
